Spring Break Staycation!!

Hi fellow travelers! I hope you all are exploring! I wanted to post some thoughts on the ever exclusive spring break! By this time of year we are all ready for some sun and fun and if you are lucky you are heading to some dreamy location like Mexico, California, Florida or even a cruise through the Caribbean. But, if you are staying in town because you don’t want to fight the crowds of college kids that invade every seaport town in the country, or have come to realize that paying for a spring break vacation is like buying real estate in Los Angeles, CA then you are like me. I will be home for spring break for a whole week with my 2 and 4 year old and while I have many activities planned, it will definitely be a long week. In my wishful thinking that I will be lying on a beach resort with a drink in my hand, I began looking at local resorts in Colorado and what they offer for spring break vacations. I found one winner and a few runners up if you want last minute ideas.
The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO gets my vote for a mini staycation during spring break. They offer a package that runs from March 15th-May 13th starting at $260.00/night (which actually is a great deal) that includes a discount on one adult ticket for the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, a discount on golf green fees from March 15-31st and kids eat free from any of their children’s menus. They have an indoor pool and there is so much to explore in Colorado Springs and at the hotel itself. If you just want to take advantage of their classic rooms without the package, their rooms start at $240.00/night. www.broadmoor.com
The Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Aurora, CO has a fabulous indoor pool and water slides to entertain the kids for a few days. They also have great restaurants, my personal favorite is Vista Montagne, an Italian restaurant that is great for kids too. Their rates are creeping up because they are getting full for spring break, but they do have a rate of $230.00/night on March 13th or $239.00/night on March 28th. They also offer a Law Enforcement rate depending on the date. When the excitement of spring break dies down they often have a Colorado resident rate of $119.00/night. www.marriott.com
I can’t forget to mention The Great Wolf Lodge in Colorado Springs, CO, talk about water park fun,  but during this time of year they have very expensive rates with their cheapest being at $369.99/night, so I might wait until there is a cheaper rate and it’s not as crowded. www.greatwolf.com
