Hi fellow travelers! I hope you all are exploring! Summer is almost here, and that means that our kids are home for about three months. When I think of how much entertaining that requires, I begin to lose it. I start planning pool days, zoo days, vacations and any activity that will keep them busy for one day… then I realize, I need more activities! A mom once asked me last March, if I had signed my kids up for any summer camps, I laughed and said “no, it’s only March”! But, after talking to her about it, I realized, that if I wasn’t signing my kids up for camps now, then I could forget getting them into one come May or June. I freaked out and thought, well they aren’t going to be going to any camps this year. Now, I have small children and honestly my four year old will probably be the only one going to a camp, but, when he is gone for a whole day, it is so much easier to handle my two year old. So, this year I have begun looking for some type of camp activity that I can put him in. I came across a website that basically provides all the information about general camps that you need. The site is www.denver.kidsoutandabout.com and this site has so much information, I found a few camps that are so ingenious, I wish I would have thought of them.
My son may be a little young for them, but, some of the ones I loved are Avid4Adeventure out of Boulder, CO, Camp Invention Denver, I also like the School of Rock camp as well. These camps get kids physically working and mentally thinking.
Avid4Adventure gets kids from Pre-K to 7th grade outside and moving around, hiking, biking, climbing and breathing that Colorado air. They have locations all over the Denver area and go from 9:00 am-3:00 pm, definitely enough time to get out all my child’s energy!
Camp Invention allows kids from kindergarten through 6th grade to enhance their math and problem solving skills through projects and experiments! Because, we all know kids want to do math on summer break right? Well, truthfully, when kids build, design and move their toys they are performing mathematical equations without the numbers. Geometry is used constantly and this camp allows them to feel like they are mini engineers at work! Plus, they will go back to school knowing more than before! And when you sign up you can use the promo code INNOVATE25L to get $25 off, it expires 3/22/19 and if you use the code PLAY15LISTING you get $15 off, expires 5/10/19.
School Of Rock gets your little rock star onto the big stage by providing musical lessons from vocals to instruments. The camps are for older kids and allow them to become confident in their musical abilities. My kids love music and love to dance, it’s a great way for them to move and gain confidence. Besides, who doesn’t want to rock out to Led Zeppelin or some 90’s bands?
One camp that I think will get any kids vote is The Iliff Preschool, Kindergarten and School Age Camp. Their website www.iliffpreschool.com will give you all the info you need about the camp, they even do field trips to cool places like the Broncos training camp and Pirates Cove. I mean, there is so much on and off campus for kids to do, they may not want to come home. They have full and half day camps and it includes activities for kids from 12 months old to 12 years old!
The “Kids Out and About” website also has other cool information about free events in Denver, free places to take kids, tons of other locations that have activities for kids and ways to keep them entertained all summer long. They even have ideas for birthday parties, if your kid wants to do something a little out of the ordinary. If you don’t live in Denver they have websites for other cities, just enter your city after you search “Kids Out and About” and see what is happening near you! Register for these camps now, because, I am sure that once parents start realizing that spring break is over and summer is on it’s way, you will end up like me last year, totally shocked that I missed the boat on planning such an epic summer break!
