5 Tips To Make Summer Last!

Hi fellow travelers! I hope you all are exploring! Yes it’s true, summer has almost left us, but there is still some fun to be had. The start of August can feel like the beginning of Christmas, school starts the days get shorter and cooler and suddenly everyone is on Fall break and gearing up for the holidays. Yikes! I, myself have felt like the summer flew by and I was wincing in fear, because I spent everyday, all day with the kids, thinking they would never get through two months of freedom. But here we are, wondering if there is anything left to squeeze out of the last days of summer break.

Fear not, I have some great ideas to keep your summer rolling into the early days of fall. These tips will keep you feeling like you may just have another month of summer magic!

Plan a Vacation-

No, I am not crazy, June and July may have been great times to travel for summer break, but they also are very expensive and very busy. The most in exspensive and least crowded month to travel in is September. I know the kids have started school and it seems like it’s bad timing, but the truth is that with Labor Day around the corner and the kids having a day off, you can travel for cheap and the kids won’t miss too much school. Even places like Disneyland and Disney World experience low crowds and cheap hotel rooms. Taking an extended weekend allows you to feel like you are still holding on to those warm summer days without breaking the bank.

Host an End of Summer Soiree-

Warm days and nights can last into early September and there is no better time to host an outdoor summer party. Pick a theme like Old Hollywood, Mexican Fiesta or Tiki Lounge and get all your friends and family together to celebrate before the cold weather rolls in. Design a menu around your theme and tell everyone to dress up. It’s amazing what looking forward to a party can do for your summer spirit!

Theme Park Action-

If you never made it to any of the theme parks or attractions in your city because of how crowded and hot it was, then now is your chance. With the days cooling off and kids heading back to school it’s a good time to take advantage of any deals they offer. Most parks will slash prices and offer discounts during the week, if your kids start later then others. It’s a great way to feel like summer is still in full swing without spending too much on expensive theme parks.

Festivals of Fun-

Festivals may sound like a Fall activity, but they actually begin in mid August. They are great for families and let you prepare for the upcoming cold months by still having a a little summer fun. State Fair’s usually start around this time and offer rides, food, music and shopping. In Colorado we have peach festivals, that start in mid August and go through September. They can be cheap and fun and keep the summer vibes going for a few more weeks.

Pool Party Until the End-

Pools stay open until Labor Day and with temps still soaring, even after school begins, the pool is a great way to cool off. Take advantage of your local pools and even water parks that are still open, you can get in for cheaper and there won’t be as many people trying to steal your lounge chair. Besides, once the snow comes your kids will be begging for some pool time, so enjoy every last drop of it!

Even though school is around the corner and summer seems to be in your rear view mirror, there is so much summer left to celebrate and enjoy! Don’t let it end without taking advantage of a few of these tips and savor every last minute of your fun in the sun!
